Global Champion to be Named in Chicago

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the program in big fashion this April in Chicago. This year’s annual global competition, which provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis, will gather 106 university teams from across the world — out of the original 950 teams participating — where they will strive to be named global champion.

Students competing in the challenge work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company, sometimes even meeting face-to-face with company management. Each team writes a research report on their assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation and may be asked to present and defend their analysis to a panel of industry professionals. There are three main levels to the competition: local, regional and global.

On 14 April, following the ENGAGE® International Investment Education Symposium, the global final of the Research Challenge will take place. Here, the top 4 teams will give a 10 minute presentation highlighted by a “Buy, Sell or Hold” recommendation on what they would do with a share of a publicly traded company’s stock. This will be followed by 10 minutes of questions and answers with a panel of judges. The judges will then evaluate each team’s performance and a winner of the 2015-2016 competition will be crowned.

Attendees of the ENGAGE conference are invited to attend the Research Challenge global final and stay for the closing reception sponsored by Kaplan Schweser.

Prepare to ENGAGE

We invite you to join us at the ENGAGE® International Investment Education Symposium to be held 14 April 2016 in Chicago.

CFA Institute will present the ENGAGE® International Investment Education Symposium in conjunction with the CFA Institute Research Challenge* regional and global final competitions.

David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist at Mainstay Capital Management, LLC and Founder of the ENGAGE® International Investment Education Symposium, and former Executive Director of the RISE 13 and 14 student conferences, will serve as Executive Director of ENGAGE 2016.

In addition to the students and faculty that will attend ENGAGE 2016 from around the globe, we also invite business professionals to take part in this educational investment forum. Participants will have the opportunity to hear insights from our featured speakers that are among the best and brightest in corporate America, government, and the financial media.

The symposium kicks off with the Federal Reserve Perspective delivered by Federal Reserve Bank President, Dennis P. Lockhart. President Lockhart will share his insights on the economy and monetary policy. ENGAGE 2016 will also feature panel discussions with prominent CEOs, presidents, chief investment officers, and economists.

Sheila C. Bair will deliver a keynote address to conclude the day. Ms. Bair is the former Chairperson of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. In 2008 and 2009, during the financial crisis, Forbes ranked her as the second most powerful woman in the world behind German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

We think you’ll agree that the lineup of speakers, schedule of events for ENGAGE 2016, and the CFA Institute Research Challenge are impressive. Be sure to mark your calendar and check back periodically for more information and updates. Whether you’re a student, professor, or a professional, you won’t want to miss the ENGAGE International Investment Education Symposium.
