Sheila C. Bair
Sheila C. Bair is the president of Washington College. Previously, she was chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Ms. Bair also served as the Dean’s Professor of Financial Regulatory Policy at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; as assistant secretary for financial institutions at the US Department of the Treasury; as senior vice president for government relations at the NYSE; as commissioner of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission; and as research director, deputy counsel, and counsel to Senator Robert Dole. She was a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, where she called for higher bank capital standards. Ms. Bair serves on a number of boards and was a senior adviser to the Pew Charitable Trusts and a founding member of the Volcker Alliance. She writes a regular column for Fortune and is the author of Bull by the Horns: Fighting to Save Main Street from Wall Street and Wall Street from Itself. Ms. Bair holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, a JD from the University of Kansas School of Law, and honorary doctoral degrees from the University of Kansas, Amherst College, and Drexel University.
